Regardless of activity level, having a baseline level of strength is important for long-term health and longevity. Our bodies break down as we age and the only way to slow the inevitable decline is to continuously build strength through progressive overload of resistance, endurance, and power.

Many people equate strength training with weight training in the form of bodybuilding or powerlifting. Weights are very effective for strength straining but aren't strictly necessary. Strength can be built through bodyweight exercise as well. Personally, I like combining simple compound lifts with kettlebells and bodyweight work for my strength training.
