How Not to Die, by Dr. Michael Greger – a Review

How Not to Die by Michael Greger - a Review

“How Not to Die” is certainly a provocative title.

On the one hand, a title like this could be considered the equivalent of literary clickbait. On the other hand, it makes a great eye-catcher and it certainly worked to grab my attention. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger MD discusses the state of current research on fifteen top causes of premature death in the U.S. and explains how changes in diet and lifestyle, namely eliminating animal products from your diet, can be more effective than medications and supplements for the prevention and reversal of disease. Does he succeed in making his case? Read on to find out.

Build Your Own Balance Board

DIY Wobble Board for Faster Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation

Build Your Balance with a Balance Board You Build

I had the misfortune of rolling my ankle at the end of July 2016, so all experiments involving physical activity came to an abrupt halt for a time. I wish I could say I rolled it doing something cool, but I can’t. I was stepping off the edge of my garage (a height of about 1.5 inches) while carrying a large cumbersome box and my foot somehow landed wrong. Danger lurks everywhere! After an initial period of following the RICE protocol (rest, ice, compression, elevation), I spent the next two days alternating between application of ice and heat to help keep the swelling to a minimum. After that, the focus was on getting back on my feet as quickly as possible, both literally and figuratively. My research led me to a quirky tool called a wobble board, read on to learn how to build your own and how I used mine to help rehabilitate my sprained ankle.

Bulletproof Matcha Tea

Green Goo That’s Good For You

I’m going to just come out and say it – I’m not a big fan of coffee.

Blasphemy! Heresy! Apostasy!

Whatever. I’ve never developed a taste for the bitterness of roasted coffee, so I typically choose tea instead. When the bulletproof coffee craze came along, I gave it a try because I figured the fat would help cut the bitterness. It does in fact help cut the bitterness and I drank bulletproof coffee regularly for a time as a morning meal replacement to help ease my transition to intermittent fasting  (no eating between 7pm-11am). Once I had fully transitioned I went back to drinking tea, but I missed the smooth buttery taste of bulletproof coffee. Sadly, none of the teas I like really jive with being mixed with fats. Then I found matcha and everything changed. Read on to find out how.

True to Form Review Decompresion and Anchoring Example

True to Form Review

True to Form by Eric Goodman

Dr. Eric Goodman, the creator of Foundation Training, is back with a follow up to his first book, which I previously reviewed. The bottom line of that review is that Foundation Training is the real deal, it addressed my back pain, and I’m a believer in Dr. Goodman and his system. I preordered this book not knowing exactly what to expect, but hoping that it would break new ground and not just be a rehash of the material presented in the previous book. It was recently released and I’ve now read it all the way through. So, does it live up to my expectation? Read on to find out!
